Dreams – My thoughts

Dreams seem to be a interesting aspect with people, especially when it comes down to their meanings. Personally, I tend to take my dreams literally, unless there is something that really stands out and then I will search for other meanings about that particular aspect. If I dream of people, I see them as representing those people, not the qualities in myself that I see in them or a symbolic need for something – unless the whole dream is about that person or need.

Anyways, my dreams tend to be strange, and I don’t think they are really trying to tell me something most of the time, it just seems my subconscious is just letting loose and having fun. But feel free to psychoanalyze them and see if I am missing something, who knows, maybe I am more deeper than I think! :D

King’s Ranch / Hannah Home

Spent last night at the 19th Annual Spring Celebration Banquet for King’s Ranch and Hannah Home. It was a great night and lots of money was raised for their homes. King’s Ranch and Hannah Home are safe heavens for youth, women and children seeking shelter from abuse, neglect, and other difficult circumstances. Their President, Lew Burdette, is a sweet guy and has done so much for those kids, women and homes.

Last night was one of their main fund raising events, and was held at the Cahaba Grand Conference Center. Their main guest speaker was Randy Howell, a Champion angler and Bassmaster tour, and his story was incredible. He spoke of his past and how he always wanted to fish, and how that dream almost came to an end due to an illness. But with help from his family and wife, and God, he overcame that illness and was able to pursue his dream. Today he is a Bassmaster tour professional and often talks with different groups about his experiences and past with God.

It’s LIVE!

(insert image of Janet doing the happy dance here)
Finally, after 2 years of back breaking (pun intended) work, The Wandering Men have finally released Untold! What is Untold you ask? Well, to quote the WM: “Untold is a revolutionary new role-playing game (RPG) from Wandering Men Studios designed to combine all the best elements of Role Playing Games (RPG’s) and Collectible Card Games (CCG’s) and toss the rest. Untold is a CBRPG (™): Card-Based Role Playing Game. It is exactly the same as any other RPG, but the primary physical “tools” of the game are different. Instead of rulebooks and character sheets, the only “tools” you need in Untold are cards!” (from About Untold)

Basically it boils down to a whole new way to play the role-playing games with out having to tote around those heavy back breaking books (see, the pun does work!) that you have to change out every time somebody decides to make female dwarfs have beards or not. It also makes the CCG a lot funner to play other than slapping down hundreds of cards for an hour straight, because you have to get into your character and actually use your imagination (I know…it means you actually have to think here people – get used to it). And another HUGE plus is that you know what is in the pack before you buy it – so no wasting of money trying to find that 1 specific card you want.

If you want to learn more, then check out their site at http://www.untoldthegame.com, or visit them at one of the many cons coming up:

Busy Week

Sorry for the delay in posting, but this past week has been busy. Between it being Easter, and having Lauren’s Baby shower on Saturday morning, Brannon and I have been on the go almost everyday. But hopefully things will settle down a bit before May hits and the whirlwind convention tour starts. :)

Books

Wow…haven spent the last few hours updating my book list, and only adding 3-4 authors, I realize that I read WAY to much, and WAY to quick.

After looking at my books choices, I guess I need to explain what I read and why I read it. My main goal/focus for reading is to read for enjoyment. Reading is a stress release for me. And reading books/authors that are very tedious, dark, depressing, will not cross these hands…ever. Out of all the types out there, I prefer murder mysteries and sci-fi/Fantasy (think R.A. Salvatore), with a bit of British humor/mystery thrown in for added spice..

Currently, I tend to stick with the more “cozy” type murder mysteries, with a strong lead woman as the main detective . Joanne Fluke, Laura Childs, Diane Mott Davidson, and Laura Levine are a few of the authors that I particular enjoy. Lilian Jackson Braun’s The Cat Who series and Rita Mae Brown’s Sneaky Pie Brown series can also be found on my reading list.

R. A. Salvatore’s characters Jaraxel and Artemis top my list for scifi/fantasy. I have read most of the Drizzt Do’Urden books, all of The Cleric Quintet, and his the Sellswords Series. I also loved reading Elaine Cunningham’s Forgotten Realm’s books/series, and thoroughly enjoyed Weiss and Hickman’s Dragons of series. And while I do enjoy the fantasy side, I haven’t really been reading it recently. During my off times, and when I am away from the computer I have been picking up the Dragon’s of trilogy, so there is a small chance I will return to this world full fledged.

As for my dips into British writings, Agatha Christie was at the top of my list (especially those books with Hercule Poirot ). And of, course I had to read Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. I did enjoy the books, but I do recommend NOT reading them while dispatching…it took me forever to read all 6 books, because I was constantly having to stop, answer the radio, and then rereading what I just read because I had forgotten it. But I finally made it through, towel and all.
But currently, I am reading P. G. Wodehouse. I love Jeeves and Wooster portrayed by Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry, so I figured I would give his books a chance. Since my local library doesn’t carry many of his books, I went online and was very happy to discover that Project Gutenberg contains many of his books online (for FREE!). Looking at his list, I decided to start at the beginning and work my through his many books. I read The Pothunters, and am currently reading The Prefect’s Uncle. So far, I have really enjoyed them. While they are lacking at the verbal sparring that Jeeves and Wooster seem to perfect, they do hint of the future humor that P.G. Wodehouse will soon hone.

As for classics – for most of them..yuck. During school, I was forced to read so many crappy “Classics” (such as Where the Red Fern Grows, the Yearling, Red Badge of Courage, etc), that I started hating the “classics”. I ended up telling my teachers this – if I have to read 240+ pages and the main character(s) dies at the end and nothing Happy happens, I will throw the book at you (and have). Eventually they listened and the book selections started getting better. So when it comes to “classics”, I throw most of them in the trash.

Okay…now that you know most of what I like and don’t like, tell me more about what you enjoy! Do you have any books or authors that I should read, or that I need to stay away from?
